About the Event
On December 5, for the first time, TEDWomen 2013 channeled the bootstrap spirit of Silicon Valley to celebrate invention in all its forms. Not just technology and things, but also solutions to poverty; approaches to peacemaking; expressions of art, and, at times, our own lives. More than 150 TEDx events around the world took part in this event by sharing the TEDWomen livestream and presenting local speakers around the theme “Invented Here.” The result: A truly global conversation — from San Francisco to São Paulo to Seoul — celebrating inventors and designers; thinkers and makers; local problem-solvers and global leaders. TEDWomen 2013: Invented Here.
As part of the TEDWomen conference, local TEDx events around the world celebrated innovative people in their own communities. In that spirit, we hosted TEDxRVAWomen, the first independently organized TEDxWomen event in the region. We hosted fourteen live speakers from the Richmond area and streamed a single session from the live webcast of TEDWomen.
TEDxRVAWomen was held at Dogtown Dance Theatre, Richmond’s premiere hub for movement arts. It is located in the historic Manchester district on the south side of the James River at 109 W 15th St #205 Richmond, VA 23224. Photos of the event can be found here.
